V. Richelieu instruments are made at Vermont Violins in Burlington, Vermont from high quality spruce and maple wood. They’re built to last with a specialized aging and drying process and varnished by hand. The resulting instrument is a high quality, beautifully designed viola perfect for the serious student. The Richelieu workshop specializes in developing and perfecting smaller instruments for serious young players.
Richelieu violas are uniquely designed to reproduce the resonant sound of a full-size viola in smaller-sized instruments. The designers, Oren Kronick and Kathy Reilly, originally developed the instruments as a professional alternative to standard child-sized violas. These instruments provide a better option than modified violins that lack the full sound of a true viola.
