Giorgio Gatti, Turin 1929

This violin is an example of Gatti’s typical Pressenda inspired model with personal touches. Gatti’s workmanship lacks attention to aesthetic detail, but his choice of materials creates superb sound quality. The violin’s tone is robust and powerful. The top is made from acoustically excellent spruce of light open grain. The back is made from a single piece of maple with medium width flame. The dark wine-red varnish penetrates the wood in the typical Pressenda fashion. The violin is branded “Giorgio Gatti / Torino” on the interior adjacent to the label.
