Carl Becker Sr., Chicago 1930
This is a fine example of this great maker’s work. It is Becker’s personal model, mathematically arrived at, and admired by all. The varnish is a orange-brown color of typically soft texture, showing little use and no abuse. The violin has a flexible (not stiff or resistant) tone with great breadth on the bass side and with brilliance and sweetness on the treble side. For the player who is interested in a truly concert-quality instrument, this one “has it”. For the Becker collector, there are few examples to equal it.
