Wilhelm Dürrschmidt
August Wilhelm Dürrschmidt, the son of maker Heinrich Georg Dürrschmidt, was born in 1863 in Markneukirchen. He took up his father’s trade and founded the Wilhelm Dürrschmidt company in 1887, which specialized in the making of bowed and stringed instruments. Their instruments became highly sought after in the United States. The firm continued making instruments after Wilhelm Dürrschmidt’s death in 1937.
This violin by the Dürrschmidt firm is a Guarneri model with varnish of a soft orange-brown color that is shaded to an amber ground in several areas on the instrument….
Richly carved and beautifully varnished, this violin has a full, vibrant tone. This instrument would be an excellent partner to the player looking for beauty in sound and appearance.
