Snow Workshop

The Snow Workshop was established in Beijing, China in 1989. Under the direction of Chinese luthier Xeuping Hu, the workshop looked to respected luthiers in Italy, France, the USA and the UK for guidance and inspiration. Xeuping Hu’s style first developed with his use of a transparent golden varnish. This golden brown varnish, applied with an original technique, has become the signature of Snow Workshop violins. The instruments are not only beautiful and unique, but they produce a determined, high quality sound. Since 1989, the workshop has grown from 6 to 70 workers to take on increasing market demand.

Snow workshop sources wood from Italy, Bosnia, and the Sichuan and Yun-nan Provinces and the North East region of China. It is then dried for three to four years outdoors to prevents warping and ensure durability in the finished instrument.

Impressed by the sound quality of Snow instruments, Yo-Yo Ma performed with a Snow Workshop cello in January 2004. In 2006, a Snow Workshop violin received a Certificate of Merit for Violin Tone in International Violin Making Competition.
