Michele & Pietro Melegari

Pietro Melegari was born in Parma in 1842. After working in the Genoa and Turin naval shipyards for over a decade, he and his brother Enrico started making instruments. They opened their first workshop in the early 1870s in Turin. Pietro and his brother Michele produced this violin collaboratively. The violin is labeled “Fratelli Melegari / fecero in Torino nell anno 1871”. The first line of the label translates to “Melegari Bros.”, the name of the Melegari family’s collaborative workshop.
