Ludwig Glaesel Workshop

Ludwig Glaesel II was born in 1872 in Markneukirchen. His father, Ludwig Glaesel I, was a violin maker and trained his son early on as a luthier. At the age of 16, Glaesel II moved to Berlin, Germany to work for the Grimm workshop. He spent many years learning every aspect of the trade, and in 1899 he opened his own workshop in Berlin-Charlottenburg. Glaesel became renowned for his fine and reliable work. Not only was he talented as a craftsman, but also as a repairer of violins and strings. The Glaesel Workshop produced many excellent instruments in the German style in the 20th century.
