James W. Briggs
1855 – 1935
Born in Wakefield in 1855, he was a pupil and employed by the Tarr (William & Joseph) shop in Manchester. Established his own shop under his name in Glasgow from 1886-1925. In addition to producing Stradivari and Guarneri reproductions, he also made violins of a more personal model and was a well respected maker of fine stringed instruments.
