Gustave Vuillaume

Gustave Vuillaume was born in Mirecourt in 1899. Gustave was member of the Vuillaume family of violin makers. He first trained with luthier Leon Mougenot in Mirecourt. Vuillaume won the silver medal at the Mirecourt professional competition three years in a row, in 1911, 1912, and 1913. After his apprenticeship, he moved to Paris to work for Caressa & Francais. After a few years, he moved to Nancy, France, to work at the Jacquot Workshop. Soon, he decided to open his own workshop.

Vuillaume made his own personal models as well as copies of traditional instruments. He was particularly known for his exceptional copies of Guarneri instruments. His instruments show fine workmanship and exceptional care.
