Maurice Mermillot, Paris 1897

Maurice Mermillot died in Mirecourt in 1901; this instrument is one of his last works. This Guadagnini model violin has an orange-brown varnish. It has a striking one piece maple back with flame of varying widths ascending from the left. The sides, neck, and scroll are of similar appearance. The top is made of two pieces of medium grained spruce. The violin has a rich, full tone with warmth and mellowness. The instrument is to be sold with an insurance valuation by Kenneth Warren & Son, Chicago, dated September 29, 1993.
