Giuseppe Pellacani, Modena c. 1940

This violin is inspired by the style of Giuseppe Ceruti, a “transitional” maker who worked between the classic and modern eras of Cremonese violin making. As visible in the accompanying photograph, the two piece back has a pleasing mixture of textures and colors, including some light flame and patches of lighter varnish. It is branded “G. Pellacani” at the tail button, and is labeled “Il Virtuoso” in ink on the neck block. The violin has a brilliant, powerful tone.
