German Bass, Mittenwald c. 1890

This German bass was made in Mittenwald and is labeled “Martin Stoss in Wien 18—”. It has a powerful, warm tone. The varnish is a dark red-brown color shaded to the amber ground. Its back is made of two pieces of plain maple with matching sides, neck, and scroll. The bass has a two piece top of wide grained spruce. The string length is 41¼” and the bass is in excellent condition.
