The back is made from a single piece of slightly figured maple, and the top is made from two pieces of spruce with medium width grain. The later scroll was likely fitted by the Hill shop. The varnish is a reddish-brown color over a dark amber ground. The violin is in excellent condition and possesses a very full, rich tone.
