Ernst Heinrich Roth, Markneukirchen 1921

Ernst Heinrich Roth was born in Markneukirchen in 1877. He worked with his father, maker Gustav Robert Roth, before establishing his own firm in 1920. As a maker, Ernst Heinrich Roth is known for his versatility and individuality. This cello features a light brown varnish with some shading to a lighter amber ground. The top is made from two pieces of spruce with narrow grain widening at the edges. The light brown varnish of the top also features an interesting pattern of highlighting. The back is made from two pieces of maple with narrow to medium width flame. The cello is labeled “Ernst Heinrich Roth / Markneukirchen / anno 1921 / Copie: Antonius Stradivarius”. It has a rich and well-balanced tone.
