Enrico Marchetti, Turin 1902
This violin is simply the finest example by this maker that we have seen. Every element, the choice of model, wood selection, quality and color of varnish, and overall design and execution, contributes to make this instrument a masterpiece both tonally and visually. Well-flamed maple and open-grained spruce, combined with sleek arching, comfortable body design and light, softly textured varnish produce a sound quality of power, richness, clarity and sweetness and ease of play. Marchetti’s skills as a luthier of great artistic talent are proven in this instrument. This violin was long-held in the collection of William Moennig & Son.
