Edward Heesom, London c. 1750, 7/8 size

Edward Heesom worked as an instrument maker in London during the period 1745 – 1753. This cello by Heesom is in very good condition. It is unlabeled but bears a repair inscription dated 1969 and is branded “Heesom” below the neck button. The varnish is a dark brown color over an amber ground. The top is made from two pieces of narrow grained spruce. The back is made from two pieces of maple with narrow to medium width flame. This cello has a very comfortably proportioned string length that measures 672 mm. Its tone is rich, warm, and responsive.
