Jiri Povolny workshop, Prague 2009, Giuseppe Dollenz model

This fine contemporary bass is a Dollenz model, produced as a joint design of the Kolstein Shop in New York and the Pavolny Violin Shop in the Czech Republic. It was handmade using aged European tonewood. Its varnish is a red-brown color shaded to amber ground with a tastefully antiqued finish. The flat back is made from two pieces of lightly figured slab cut poplar, with matching sides, neck, and scroll. The top is made from two pieces of widely grained spruce. The bass offers great depth of sound and projection in all registers. The string length is 41″.
