Caressa & Francais, Paris 1909

This cello was made for the Paris Conservatory and was given to the top student, Anna Nehr, in 1911. There is a beautiful gilt inscription on the back of the cello that conveys this information; it reads “Premier Prix Decérné / Par Le / Conservatoire National / de Musique / à Anna Nehr / l’an 1911”. The varnish is a dark red. The cello has a rich, colorful sound that speaks easily, even when played softly. It has a sweet, resonant upper register and a dark, deep lower register.
