Giovanni Schwarz, Venice 1913
Based on a personal Guarneri model, this violin is a player’s instrument in every regard. The wood choice for the top, an open-grained spruce, lends itself to the smooth, responsive and rich tone. The complementary back of bird’s-eye maple, gives focus and a sweet clarity to the sound. The arching is full and of medium height for the maximum production of volume and variety of tone color. The varnish is of very good consistency in a beautiful color of medium reddish-brown. An excellent blend in orchestral settings, this instrument is also well-suited for solo work. It is labeled and branded by the maker. The scroll is by a later hand.
